It's a great pleasure for me to see that (1) they seem to have scrapped the idea of putting artificial turn in at Shea Stadium and (2) that the Mets are the projected Eastern Division champions. The concept of playing on a piece of concrete with green plastic on top is distressing, at best. And, after last season's great surprise, and with the acquisition of Gary Carter, the Mets are going to be unstoppable. (Don't let the header fool you: this boy lives 15 minutes from Shea and is proud of it! Let's go Mets!!) -- Martin Miller Harvard University Science Center ...harvard!h-sc1!miller

(cool?)... Changes at Shea do NOT include Astroturf (as noted in my original posting), a dome, or any extra seating. What they do include is bathroom overhaul (call it the Leon Hess factor), luxury boxes, and putting up glass (acrylic?!) barriers around the outside of the stasium, which will supposedly cut down on chilly breezes. I think there will also be some touch-up of drainage and the natural surface. I don't know if anything else is to be done. The deal also provided for two September football dates and cession of concession revenue from those dates to a hypothetical football team. David Rubin
