[net.sport.baseball] pinch hitting and Rusty Staub

Yes, most certainly. This does happen fairly often. (Of course, in last
night's game, Rusty played Right Field (though Left Field sometimes), and
made a great catch!)

Incidentally, I had never heard of left and right fielders switching in
the middle of an inning. Anyone got any good stories, before the Mets/
Pirates 18 inning game with Staub and Hurdle?

There are two kinds of people in the world, those who divide people into two
kinds, and those who don't.

Johnson was trying to hide Rusty in the outfield by
switching him back and forth. Of course, the pirates
caught on and whapped one out toward Rusty, but he
got to it just fine (though a little winded I would
guess).

How soon will Yogi be back with the Mets?
