[net.sport.baseball] Carpets and the DH

nichols@cmu-cs-h.ARPA (David Nichols) (05/09/85)

As a fan of a team with good hitting pitchers (the Pirates), I think
the DH is just awful. When Rhoden or Robinson is pitching, we've got
one more hitter in the lineup than they do (or we would, if we had any
other hitters on the roster). Several times I have seen Rhoden hit
a double or a home run to help himself out.

Have any of you carpet-haters heard about the new stuff they've installed
in Kansas City? The article I read in TSN said that the ball bounces
a lot more like it would on grass, and that it is softer and thus easier
on the players' legs. The players in KC like it a lot, and Willie
Wilson say he has tracked down a few hits in the gaps that would have
gone to the wall last season.
