I really don't see the belligerent attitude a lot of people have toward the DH, whether pro or con. If you don't like it, fine, stick to the NL. If you like it, then the AL's for you. But there's no sense in getting upset because one league has rules you don't like. (Of course, I'm in L.A. where I have a choice of Dodgers (boo!) or Angels (yea!), so I have the opportunity to follow both leagues pretty easily.) If anything, I think it's more interesting to have *something* different between the leagues, other than where the umps wear their chest protectors (or has that already changed? I forget.) I mean, it's not like the AL has drifted so far from The Game that one more change will make it look like the NBA! This calls to mind a college "prank" of 10 years ago. My friends and I thought up the craziest rule changes we could come up with. Let's see, one was allowing players to run the bases in either direction (yes, runners could cross paths, but they have to end up on different bases); another was a penalty box for guys who spit tobacco (when their two minutes are up, they stand in the penalty box near the dugout, and when the next ball is hit, they run to any free base without getting out). There were more, and we sent all of them to Bowie Kuhn. We got back a formal answer, saying simply, "Thank you for your interest in the sport of baseball. I'm passing your suggestions on to our rules committee." I have the letter in my scrapbook... So I'd calm down about the DH. Seems pretty mild compared to some things baseball may "consider." Oh, I don't care if I ever get back...to work... -- decvax!randvax!boren

At the moment I don't remember his name, but I'm sure one of you wizards out there will provide the answer. ...mhuxl!ogre
