Well, The replies have fallen to a trickle, so here are the results of the designated hitter poll. There were 22 votes cast; that's pretty good for the small number of people that participate in this newsgroup. Should we keep the designated hitter rule, or get rid of it? The DH is bullshit. really. If you want to have more offense, or 'make the game more exiting' why don't you just take the idea all the way and have two teams - one offensive and one defensive [like football]. this way not only wouldn't you see the pitcher bat, you wouldn't have to see no-power no-average - good glove infielders bat either. By the way, if your a NL fan like me, you might have caught a word about an amazing game the METS played recently. 18 innings against the PIRATES where a pitcher pinch hit for an infielder [Rhoden, I believe] because all his regulars were used up. this pitcher has a +260. avg. Of course if he played in the AL we wouldn't know his avg. !!!!!!! And yes, the pitcher got the hit. Dee Jay Bee
