I've got a question for baseball history buffs: How and when did the tradition of tossing the ball around the infield after an out (with no runners on) start? Is it to give possibly idle infielders a chance to make a throw so they can keep active? Or maybe to give the pitcher a moment to relax while waiting for the next batter? Other reasons? I'll summarize any replies send to me to the net. Thanks. -- Bernie Dougan Perkin-Elmer Southern Development Center 2486 Sand Lake Road Orlando, Florida 32809 (305)850-1040 {decvax!ucf-cs, ihnp4!pesnta, vax135!petsd}!peora!bd
