In case of a strike could the owners bring in their minor league players or do these guys strike also? If so then the owners wouldn't get hit so hard financially as a lot of people would still go to the games (I think), the minor leaguers would get a thrill, and maybe the strike wouldn't last so long, as the regular players and owners wouldn't want their positions or there team records in the hands of less capable players. Any comments?

Yes, I have comments (but don't I always!). (1) Who will pay major league prices for AAA ball? (2) Do you want to have the team with the best AAA affiliate to make the playoffs? (3) Is it wise to so interfere with the development of the next crop of major leaguers? (4) Will AAA players who have the talent to make the majors participate in the busting of their own future union? (5) Could anyone come up with a better recipe to insure that the hypothetical strike is dramatically lengthened? (Actually, I can: the owners could take out "strike insurance". One thing that is working against a strike is that the owners can never get such protection again.) David Rubin {allegra|astrovax|princeton}!fisher!david

I think that as soon as the minor league players are "brought up," they become major leaguers, and therefore, will participate in the strike. HUH????? I don't really know about that one. I agree. Crossing picket lines should give those minor leaguers a real thrill! :>) Actually, I think the minor league players would also strike, or stay and play their minor league games. I don't think many people would come to the a major league park and pay to watch minor league games. Mike Clifford

You may note that a cable network ESPN used the minor league baseball games to televise during the last baseball strike. I would not doubt if they did that again. If a strike happens, keep your eye out for it. By the way, last time there was a strike, the owners did NOT use minor league players. -morrism- Mitchell J.
