[net.sport.baseball] DENVER BASEBALL

lak@druny.UUCP (KaufmanLA) (07/01/85)

Although I am an avid baseball fan, and beggers shouldn't be choosers I
must post this article.

The hottest rumor about Denver getting a baseball team soon is that the
Pirates could be the team. Now I have nothing against the Pirates, but
please if anyone out there in "net" land is from Pittsburgh go out and
see the Pirates so they will stay in Pittsburgh.

I can't face the thought of getting a National league team in Denver
and not being able to see the YANKEES (insert boos here). The Yankees
are THE TEAM.

So, Pittsburgh keep your Pirates, send us the Oakland A's (or any other
American League team).

Please don't beg. And don't be choosy, either!!!! (I should
talk.)

They only drew about 10,000 for a July 4th game. Not too good.

I am very split on this decision. I really enjoy NL baseball more
than AL. Now, if Pittsburgh was to come to Denver, that would be
fine. I could see my Atlanta Braves (in person) 6 times a year.
My only problem is that I would have to be hypcritical (sp) in my
support for the Denver club. My #1 allegiance would have to be
with the Braves, and #2 would be with the Denver team.

I'm sure I would go to a lot of games if we got an NL team, but I'm
not too sure if I would be that enthsiastic with an AL team. I
think Oakland should stay in Oakland. (Say, what about the Giants,
that would be even better--the Braves in town for 9 games.....)

Philadelphia Athletics...

Kansas City Athletics...

Oakland Athletics...

Hardly the longevity of the N.Y. Yankees...

It is interesting that the papers in Denver are saying the same things that
they are in Washington D.C. There are rumors here that the Pittsburgh Pirates
could come to Washington. There are rumors about National League expansion
in Washington in 1987.

I am an avid Oakland A's fan and I dislike the idea of their relocation as
much as you would probably dislike the relocation of the Yankees. The A's
may never move no matter how much money they lose. Oakland Coliseum has
quite a grip on that ballclub (especially after losing the Raiders!).

C,mon Lynn, don't you see a scam when you see one? Galbreath is created
one heck of a demand for his team of malcontents by bringing in not one,
but two potential owners from Denver. What's the going price up to now?
50 Million? Soon a local buyer will come in...

Meanwhile, King Pete keeps contradicting himself depending
on who he is talking to.(Yes, we will expand, no we will not, Denver
is on the list, no it is not,..etc., etc., etc...)
Unfortunately, major league baseball promised a team to Denver already
in the early 60's, and they have been dangling the carrot ever since.

Personally, I've grown tired of it. I still have occasional relapses
of "baseball withdrawel" since moving to Ft. Collins from Chicago,
but it's time to put up or shut up as far as the league is concerned.

P.S. An American League Team? I guess I could boo the Yankees as well
as the next guy.
