Well, it may be time to take a breather on the net, that is, if the players strike tomorrow (Tuesday, the 6th). First the oddities of late (for those semi-fans who don't read the "transactions" column in the daily paper -:)): 1: The Cardinals stole 4 bases on the same play against the Cubbies last week. Coleman on 2nd, someone on 1st. Both take off and the throw comes to third, a bit off the bag. Coleman overslides 3rd but avoids the tag. Sensing that he couldn't get back to third he takes off for home and gets in a rundown. Jodi Davis throws back toward third, but no one covers home, and Coleman scores. The man on 2nd goes to third in the process. The official scorer at the game has to call up some "real official scorer" somewhere to get a ruling and it comes down: 4 stolen bases. 2: In a Sox-Yankees game, Fisk tags out two runners on the same play for an odd DP (like the one Buck Martinez had when he got hurt). The real reason is that the second out came because Dale Berra is a lousy base runner. 3: On the same day (Sunday August 4th), Seaver won his 300th 4-1 over them (damn) Yankees, Carew hit his 3000th hit (he is a great ballplayer, too quiet to get any attention), and someone named Verplank won the Western Open as an amateur. Poll Time: Send me your answer of the statement that best describes your feelings: 1) Against the players 2) Against the owners 3) For the players 4) For the owners 5) Against both 6) Don't know - Don't care - Pass me a hot dog I'll post in a while. Yours, Jon Hanrath .... ihnp4!ltuxa!jmh
