[net.sport.baseball] just a couple of questions

I think the Sox and Sox answered my question about what happens to a hitting
streak if a game is tied and then rained out. Wednesday night (July 30) the
ChiSox were playing at Fenway. It had been raining all day and I half expected
the game to be called before it was ever started. For some reason the Umps
didn't call the game prior to the start and they played in the rain for almost
all 7 innings. Finally after the 7th inning they decided to put the tarp on
the field and they eventually called the game - it was tied at 1-1. For the
Red Sox it was the first tie since 1961 or something like 3868 games, I believe
that is a record for games played without a tie. Anyway, the stats for that 7
inning tie game go down in the books as official but the entire game had to be
replayed. So to answer my question, that means that a hitting streak would
have been snapped. I would imagine that the same thing would be true for a
suspended game. Now my question is, what determines when a game is called a
"tie" and has to be replayed or when it is just "suspended" to be completed
later?

One other interesting note about the Sox-Sox game. Chicago scored their run in
the first inning, Boston scored their run in the seventh inning, then the tarp
was brought out and the game was called. What was interesting was the fact
that it had been raining all day (several Boston streets were already getting
flooded), it rained the entire game, but they didn't stop the game until after
Boston had tied it. I guess it was just a coincidence.
