[net.sport.baseball] Drug Testing?

I haven't heard much lately about Ueberroth's drug testing proposal
and player reactions to it. Does anyone know what the status of
this is? Personally, I'm inclined to favor some kind of drug
testing program. I think in addition to the issue of possible
corruption of the game, there's an issue of safety involved.
I wouldn't want to face a pitcher knowing he might have no idea
where the ball is going to go (I believe Vida Blue said he was
in this condition). For that matter, I wouldn't want to be a pitcher
throwing a 90mph fastball at someone who was feeling immortal.
It's true that we don't require drug tests of pilots, and other
professions where safety is much more of an issue. On the other
hand, as far as I know we haven't had tens of known cases over the
past few years where pilots have been on drugs while flying planes.
If we had, I think we would have a pilot testing program so fast
it would make your head swim.
