[net.sport.baseball] Pitcher an MVP?

ogre@whuts.UUCP (LOCOCO) (09/12/85)

Well net.sport.baseball followers, they must be listening to us out
there. Last night on the Mets-Cardinals broadcast on SportsChannel
they held another 900 Telephone Poll. Guess what for:
Should a pitcher be eligible for MVP?
or as we have discussed here on the net should it only include the
everyday players. Well the results of the poll came in and the
tally showed:
68% said YES they should be eligible.
32% said NO they should not be eligible.
Ralph Kiner, former everyday ballplayer and present Met announcer, did
not hesitate to put in his two cents for the NO side. I voted for the
YES, but I think there should be more consideration for an award for
just the everyday player, as suggested by a fellow netter in a previous
posting. It might be difficult to gain some recognition for this new
award, but you have to start somewhere.

Does anyone else care to carry the ball on this topic?
