Could you get away from an EYE? What would you be fighting if you were fighting a MIMIC? A FUNGUS is something to be avoided. QUASITs are nasty beasts as well. Would you rather find a MACE or a SWORD? A WAND or a RING? A POTION or a SCROLL? And I don't really think I want to see the AMULET or YENDOR. And if you think that a DRAGON is bad, how about a PURPLE. My vote for the worst is probably PURPLE.
