[net.sport] Cricket: England beats India by 7 wkts in First Test

INDIA in ENGLAND  -- First Test at Lord's

The visiting Indian team was soundly defeated by England  in  the
first  of  three  Tests.  The Indians narrowly escaped an innings
defeat, but England came in winners by a seven wickets.

England batted first after the new skipper, Willis, won the toss.
Despite  a few early set-backs, Botham, Randall and Edmonds built
up a sizable total.  A record last wicket  stand  of  70  between
Allott and Willis aided the final score of 433.

The England seamers, Botham, Willis, Pringle and Allott, skittled
India  out  for  128,  Botham  leading  the  way  with  5 for 46.
Following on, the visitors  fared  better,  thanks  to  a  157 by
Vengsarkar  and  a  dashing  89  by  Kapil Dev.  By the last day,
however, England needed only 65 to win, which they  managed  with
little difficulty.

I think a new magazine net.sport.cricket is a great idea. I have had to 
go around looking for British newspapers or trying to tune my shortwave 
radio. So, KEEP IT UP.

Cricket news this summer should be plentiful. India is 
playing England to be followed by Pakistan vs. England. 
Also the World Cup is going on now (the preliminary rounds 
include a team from the USA!!). Cricket has almost almost become an year 
round sport.
