INDIA in ENGLAND -- First Test at Lord's The visiting Indian team was soundly defeated by England in the first of three Tests. The Indians narrowly escaped an innings defeat, but England came in winners by a seven wickets. England batted first after the new skipper, Willis, won the toss. Despite a few early set-backs, Botham, Randall and Edmonds built up a sizable total. A record last wicket stand of 70 between Allott and Willis aided the final score of 433. The England seamers, Botham, Willis, Pringle and Allott, skittled India out for 128, Botham leading the way with 5 for 46. Following on, the visitors fared better, thanks to a 157 by Vengsarkar and a dashing 89 by Kapil Dev. By the last day, however, England needed only 65 to win, which they managed with little difficulty. I think a new magazine net.sport.cricket is a great idea. I have had to go around looking for British newspapers or trying to tune my shortwave radio. So, KEEP IT UP. --shamim BTL MH PS This is my first submission to the network. If anything went wrong, sorry.
