NEW YORK - Eight members of the Indian cricket team,
including Captain Sunil Gavaskar, now touring England, will
arrive in the United States July 15 on a three-week visit.
Besides Gavaskar, the players who accepted the invitation
from the New Jersey Cricket Association for the tour are
Vice Captain Gundappa Viswanath, Syed Kirmani, Kapil Dev,
Sandeep Patil, Yashpal Sharma, Ravi Shastri and Suru Nayak.
Association president Rao Mylavarapu told India Abroad that
the tour was aimed at promoting cricket in this country and
providing an opportunity for cricket lovers to see the
visitors in action. Hence, the association is organizing
one-day matches for week-ends in New York and New Jersey
areas in addition to Philadelphia and Washington. Matches
are also likely to be held on the West Coast.
