Last year the congradulations went to the folks at Dean Smith's North Carolina - now they go the Jimmy at N.C. State. I don't know much about North Carolina, but, man, do they play basketball in that state. Thurman, from "in your waiters" columbus OH

It has been pointed out that in 6 of the last 9 NCAA championships a team from the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area (about a 12 mile radius) has been in the final game. We are understandably proud of the quality of basketball played in this area and in the Atlantic Coast Conference overall. The N.C. State story is truly amazing...I doubt we'll see its like again for a long while. If you had told me that an unranked team would meet, and beat, four teams that had at one time or another been ranked #1 in the polls -- one of them twice! -- on its way to a national championship I would have tried to sell you a couple of bridges than I own.
