[net.sport] Lineman invade London

rcj1@ihuxi.UUCP (08/04/83)

This shorty appeared in todays sport section. I thought
you people might find it somewhat humorous....

St. Louis and Minnesota will play the first NFL exhibition
on British soil Saturday, but the average Briton regards
the game as played by large, loutish types in Star Wars
	getups.
There has been an advance sale of 27,000, with ticket
prices ranging from $7.50 to $75. However, Wembly stadium
in London can accomodate 100,000 for soccer and rugby.
"Football? Is that the game where the guys dress up like
astronauts?" sneered one writer. "Its an absolutely frightful
game", said Jonathan Channon. "Why do we have to suffer it?
Its disgraceful, an insult to the British nation. Another
bloody Americanism foisted on us, like McDonalds on every
	corner."
More from Channon: "In comparison to a quiet Sunday game
of cricket, it is uncivilized. McDonalds, chain food, gasoline
in cars, urban deprivation, rock`n' roll, drugs- they're all
things America has foisted on the clean living British."
Want to bet the crown jewels on the Vikes?
