[net.sport] Monday Night at the Fights

I did not watch the seciond half of the NY-Det game last nite, but
I heard a referee was knocked unconscious near the end of the
fourth quarter. I also heard that a player was tossed out of the
game. Was it an accident? Who was ejected? Did the ref continue
to work the game? Did he lose some teeth? I hope someone can
shed some light on this.

One more thing. Saturday I heard Rich King of WBBM Newsradio78
say that an ambulance had been driven onto the field during the
Oklahoma-Missouri game. The Sunday Chgo Trib sports section didn't
mention anything about who was hurt, or how bad. Does anyone
on the net know anything about it?

Yup, the referee got a mouthful of somethin' he didn't want! (An elbow)
His mouth was bloodied, but no flying teeth that I know of. He valiently
continued to ref. I believe it was No. 64 on the Lions (don't know the
name). He was thrown out, because he had started to tangle and when the
ref tried to stop him he got it. I don't think it was intentional, however.

Sorry, don't know about the OK-Missouri game.

Dick Jorgensen, the referee, was flatened by a forearm to the face by a
Detroit player.
It appeared to me that the player was trying to forearm one of the Giant
players and missed. He got Jorgensen straight in the mouth.

Jorgensen is from the Champaign-Urbana area(University of Illinois). What's
interesting is that he is president of a local bank. He sure has a great
hobby.

I haven't read tonights paper to see if he still has his front teeth.

Spencer Tillman, redshirt freshman running back for OU, was the
injured player. His neck was injured and they were taking extra
precautions with him. (Partially due to the fact OU is actually
a little low in the number of running backs it has, and Marcus
	DuPree's exit didn't help any).

It turns out he just had a sprained neck or something like that --
it wasn't too serious. He was suited up this Saturday for the
OU-Colorado game, but didn't play. BTW, another redshirt freshman
running back named Earl Johnson just broke Marcus DuPree's
freshman running record (at OU, set last year) in the game against
Colorado today. Not too bad, with two regular season games to go.
(Please, no cracks about him possibly getting negative yards against
	Nebraska)

Also, I'm all in favor of a net.sport.hoops (or something). I guess
Playboy (see earlier article listing b-ball top 20) doesn't
realize we got another incredible crop of freshmen at OU to
complement last year All-American (first time for a freshman)
Wayman Tisdale! One of the freshmen in named Darrel (sp?) Kennedy
who out-scored Wayman in a scrimmage about 2 weeks ago...
Anyway, look for OU to make its way into the top 20.
