HOW TO READ A SCORE The "box" score is broken into innings, each innings follows the same format. First, each player to bat is listed, 1 per line. The format is <His name><how he was out><runs scores>. The symbols for how he was out are: c- caught b-bowled (or who was bowling at the time) lbw- leg before wicket st- stumped. A good score is 50 runs. 100 is a "century", 200 is a "double century", etc. (The highest score in a test is 365 not out by GS Sobers of the West Indies vs Pakistan in Kingston.) Extras are runs crdited to a team but not to a batsman. The symbols for those are: b-bye (When the wicketkeeper failed to catch the ball and runs were made; similar to a passed ball in baseball) lb-leg bye (runs scored off a ball that hits a batsman's legs as opposed to his bat) nb- no ball (an illegally bowled ball) and w-wide (a ball bowled where the batsman can't hit it). This is followed by the fall of the wickets. When a wicket falls, the score at the time is noted. These separate batsman partnerships. The bowling statistics follow. There are four numbers per bowler, overs, maiden overs (where no runs are scored), runs given up, and wickets. If the over has a decimal point (x.y), the number of overs bowled is x with y additional balls of another over bowled. Bowlers are ranked by the ratio of runs/wickets. 15.00 is excellent, 25.00 is acceptable. JCA
