I'm wholy in favor of Federal Legislation to prohibit teams with under .500 records from making the playoffs. This would apply to baseball, basketball, hockey, football, and any other professional sport in the U.S. of A. Sure would eliminate the long playoff schedule in hockey (NHL) and basketball (NBA), and would eliminate the possibility of a lousy team winning a championship on a fluke. It might also make the regular season more interesting and important, especially in the NHL and NBA. ...bob garmise...at&t bell labs, columbus... P.S. I think it will take Federal Legislation because no self-respecting sport will police itself when money is involved.

But then how will a team from the American League West make it to the playoffs? :-) Dave Van Handel ___ /. .\ q " p \ - /
