[net.sport] Chance of winning?

nyssa@abnji.UUCP (nyssa of traken) (09/06/85)

Earlier, somebody asked for a formula f(x,y) to determine
the odds of a team winning a given match, and he listed several
conditions. Although I didn't test this against all conditions,
I suspect that this may fit the bill:

f(x,y)= (x-xy)/(x+y-2xy).

The only problems arise a boundary conditions, ie x=y=1.0 and
x=y=0. x and y are winning percentages regularly. Does this fit
your needs?

Maybe they'll want one of your women to experiment on, perhaps
I shall take this one to them!
