Here are my ratings of the <<1985>> F1 drivers: Driver Team Rating ---------------------------------------------------- Alboreto, Michele Ferrari 6 - Michele seems to be a fair driver but I feel he is too inconsistent and not aggressive enough to win the driving title. Alliot, Philippe RAM 6 Arnoux, Rene Ferrari 8 - Certainly a better driver than Alboreto, but unfortunately not as popular with Mr. Ferrari. Berger, Gerhard Arrows 8 - Gerhard would do better if he drove for a more consistent team. Boutsen, Thierry Arrows 7 Brundle, Martin Tyrrell 7 Capelli, Ivan Tyrrell 8 - There may be some promise here if Ivan gains some more experience with a good team. Cheever, Eddie Alfa Romeo 8 - Eddie is a good racer who is fairly aggressive but unfortunately drives for the wrong team. de Angelis, Elio Lotus 7 - I never know what to say about Elio. At times he is one of the best on the track, yet in other races it seems that he is holding back. For example, he seemed to be really aggressive at the start of last season, but this tapered off as the season went on. De Cesaris, Andrea Ligier 9 - Andrea is a good fast driver. Fabi, Teo Toleman 7 Ghinzani, Piercarlo Osella, Toleman ?? Johansson, Stefan Tyrrell, Ferrari 9 - Stefan is a good driver who is going to get better with experience. My biggest gripe with him so far is that he seems to be too tough on his Ferrari and has not yet learned its operating capacities (especially fuel, tires and turbos). Laffite, Jacques Ligier ?? Lauda, Niki McLaren 10 Mansell, Nigel Williams 8 - Nigel is definately improving as a driver, but I wonder how much of his recent success is due to his equipment. Martini, Pierluigi Minardi ?? Patrese, Riccardo Alfa Romeo ?? - Hard to rank because of the inconsistencies of the Alfa. Piquet, Nelson Brabham 10 - One of the best. It will be very interesting to see how he does this year in the Honda. Prost, Alain McLaren 9 - Not one of my favourite drivers despite all of his success. I think a lot of it is due to the excellence of his vehicle. Rosberg, Keke Williams 10 - Keke is capable of winning every race. Senna da Silva, Ayrton Lotus 10 - Getting better all the time. If the Lotus were 100% every race, Ayrton would win. Streiff, Philippe Ligier, Tyrrell ?? Surer, Marc Brabham 8 Tambay, Patrick Renault 9 - A good driver whose fortunes have suffered along with Renault's. Warwick, Derek Renault 8
