[net.unix] Office automation system

oz@rlgvax.UUCP (THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ) (09/23/83)

Just a quick note: CCI's (Computer Consoles Inc.) Office Automation system
is called OfficePower not UNIX. UNIX is a trademark of Bell Labs, Office
Power is a trademark of CCI for its Office Automation system that runs
under the UNIX operating system. Since I am involved with the product, I
do not think it would be fair for me to comment on it. For an in depth
analysis of OfficePower by an impartial observer, see the latest edition of
the Seybold report which discusses OfficePower.

As OZ is aware, I am involved in the installation and evaluation
of CCIs Office Power at a major military installation. I do not want
to comment on the package on the net, not because of severe problems
with the package (by and large we are happy with it, and CCI has been
co-operative), but rather articles tend to have a long half-life.
There are some problems that are being worked on, and if anyone is
interested, I will send them mail, but I do not want to post an
article about a bug, then have the bug fixed, but the article hang
around or get passed around for months.

In general, the system works well, and supports electronic
mail with attachments, telephone messages, calendars, reminders,
a word processor, some data base capabilities, and some interesting
alternatives to 'vipw' and the like (did I get them all OZ?).

We are planning on getting an office automation system. Currently
in the runniing are Molecular (CP/M), Victor (MS/DOS), Vector (MS/DOS),
Plexus (Unix), CCI (Unix), and Wicat (Unix).
Does anyone have anything good or bad to report on any of these systems?
