[net.unix] MULTIPLEXED FILES

MUEHLEN%sri-csl@sri-unix.UUCP (11/28/83)

What happens to multiplexed files?
We are using MPX(2) for the implementation of a small window manager.
We have encountered some failures of MPX files in BSD 4.1.
Shall we try to fix these failures or should we use other features
(which)?
In Bell System V MPX files have vanished. Are the MPX files still in
BSD 4.2 or should we use the sockets instead?
We personally like the MPX files for many-to -one process communication.
Is there somebody who has used the MPX files?

I understand multiplexed files are dead, and never did work right. --Ray

Multiplexed files are not in 4.2BSD. Learn to use sockets and select().
