[net.unix] How to learn where "grep" comes from...

jeff@heurikon.UUCP (02/14/84)

Well, getting the new Kernigham and Pike book was worth it,
if only to learn where "grep" originated. Since those of us
who now know consider it a distinct priviledge to have been
let in on this secret, I just can't give it away, except to
suggest that when you get the book, look first at page 18.

The first place I saw grep "revealed" was in "Advanced Editing on UNIX"
by Brian Kernighan, a paper distributed in the documentation package for
PWB/UNIX.
