One of the best acoustic Jazz violin albums was the "Violin-Summit" release in Europe on Musidisc-Europe MPS15012 and recently re-released in the US on Verve 821 303-1. It has 4 of the greatest jazz violin players on it: Stuff Smith Stephane Grappelly Svend Asmussen Jean-Luc Ponty With accompaniment from: Kenny Drew Niels Henning Orsted-Pedersen Axel Riehl This album really swings! Stuff Smith puts all jazz violinists to shame. They obviously had a lot of fun recording it. For all jazz violin fans, this album is a must purchase! cc: info-music@BRL-VGR.ARPA Since you are interested in jazz violinists, you may find (I'm not sure of the first name) Subramanian interesting. He plays a remarkable fusion of jazz and Indian styles which can be both powerful and sensitive, and his technical ability is overwhelming. His band, if I remember correctly, includes guitars, sax, keyboards and a breath-actuated synthesizer, as well as percussion. The players are all highly accomplished. I believe he has recordings on the market, although I have not seen them. Based on the concert I saw here, however, I recommend you give him a listen anytime you get the chance.
