[net.unix] ksh and ^V

Can anyone tell me why the Korn shell undefines your "literal next
character" (i.e., lnext which defaults to ^V)?  I looked at the code
and they deliberatly undefine it in a function called setraw, but I
can't see why it needs to be done.
