From: Scott J. Kramer <sjk@Sri-Spam.ARPA> Hi. We've acquired the 4.2BSD version of INGRES from Relational Technology and are in the process of evaluating it. My understanding is that the UNIX version suffered from lack of support until recently while most of the effort went into the VMS version. Is there anyone else using the UNIX version and would you mind sharing your impressions? Thanx! scott

From: TomC <crimmins@Brl-Aos.ARPA> We at US Army BRL recently acquired the 4.2bsd version of RT INGRES. So far all that we've done is load the first version, find lots of things missing, and get a second release tape from Relational Technology. I just loaded the second tape yesterday so there hasn't been much to discover yet. The person who is doing the applications is Grace Hiter, hiter@brl, and I know she will be interested in speaking with others about RT Ingres under 4.2bsd. Tom Crimmins crimmins@brl

Scott (and compamy),
I recevied a copy of your message sent to info-unix and would like
to welcome you to the family of RTI Ingres users. As Tom Crimmins said,
we are just getting started. We, here at the BRL, are anxious to share
information with other users, like yourself, whenever the opportunity
arises. We have attended one users' group meeting in South Carolina and
are planning to attend again in Berkley on 7-9 May. We strongly support
this forum and highly recommend it to you and your staff.
Together with Grace Hiter, others helping me with the task of auto-
mation are; Rick Angelini, (angel@brl) and Vicki Emmons, (vicki@brl).
Feel free to contact us at any time. Hoping to see you in Berkley in May,
Mike Waltermyer

(I tried replying by mail, but the letter didn't make it) We are currently evaluating databases, including RTI Ingres. The Unix version of RTI does lag the VMS version by about 6 months. Our sources say that the 2.1 release for Unix should be in about a month or two. Release 3.0 will be towards the end of the year (check with your salesman for the latest information on release and what is in it). We have had very good relations with RTI, they have been very accomodating in helping us with our evaluation effort. -- eric ...!seismo!umcp-cs!aplvax!eric

We would like to know more about the 4.2 INGRES. We got the 4.1 INGRES
but users were unhappy with it. Now we have got the 4.2bsd and am
thinking if we should bother to try INGRES again. Any comments
from users?
