A few weeks ago, I sent out a request for the programs people wanted. Since no answers have been received for a week, it is time to report. Here is the list, in the order they arrived, without comment. Note that some are for facilities that exist, so don't point them out. A portable window system (non termcap) using a mouse C compiler for the Commodore 64 Time management system, allowing free format input, with summaries, PERT Memory for the last file names used Debugging tool with more intelligence A reasonable debugger Library routine: C parser to generate abstract syntax trees Program code browser Networking software that is more intelligent, device independent, efficient More libraries FORTRAN-C translator Program code paralellism detector FORTRAN optimizer (vectorizer) Public domain relational database manager portable GKS implementation A good UNIX word processing system (not vi or emacs) windows for vi (like emacs) merginf of Berkeley and Bell Labs UNIX work ksh smart uucp router 8086 development tools graphics editor logic optimizers MacPaint public domain LALR(1) grammar for C (to use YACC) description of intermediate code used by PCC help with writing [nt]roff macros Pascal-C and FORTRAN-C translators The Korn Shell 4.xBSD version of SCCS and RCS or some sort of code manager Ditroff C cross-reference generator for BSD C compiler to generate code for an iAPX-286 processor C variable, function, etc. cross-reference generator C code complexity analyzer C pretty printer smarter than cb A non-trivial benchmark improved RCS hte interface arsenal simple spread sheet and database packages FORTRAN-{C|Pascal|Ada|even F77} conversion FORTRAN optimizer UNIX based 8080/8085/z80 cross assembler cross-referencer with graphic output PL/I compiler program for reading floppies for Apples/PC's/etc. modem management for non-UNIX systems conversion between formatting languages map-drawing program word-processing editor with programmable tabstops better nroff macros so that the source was readable random number generators standard object file format for all languages UNIX shell that looks like TOPS-20 game programming language (concurrent, recursive) calendar reminder service content addressible personal database system intelligent system administration symbolic debugger symbolic debugger like Smalltalk but for C or FORTRAN or Lisa Toolkit in Objective-C or Classcal public domain uucp compiler prototyping tools window package for standard terminals CAI package diary system better on-line help for UNIX better dump/restor facility graphic display of core to monitor process and swapping activity modeling system window package for standard terminals access control lists for more flexible file sharing TCP/IP network support generalized raster plotting support internet domains 8th edition UNIX DMF-32 driver statistics - SPSS SAS ... graphics software troff ouput filter for dot-matrix printer Bravo on a BLIT Needless to say, UNIX s a trademark of AT&T Bell Laboratories.
