[net.unix] Unix on PDP-11/23

If you could get a source license, 2.9BSD is probably the best
PDP-11 Unix. Otherwise I would recommend Venix as the binary license to
get.
You might want to wait for the PDP-11/73. Much faster and has
split I&D. Not very expensive either.
You would be crazy not to get a Unix with overlay support (both
kernel and user). Modern Unix programs don't fit on non-overlaid, non-I&D
PDP-11's.
The MicroVAX is pretty far off in the future, I think. Say, 1 year.
I'm not sure why you were considering an 11/23, perhap avaibility
of surplus parts. Maybe you'd consider one of the several micro's on the
Qbus. You can get a 68000 on the Qbus for about $1000 more than the 11/23.
It would be much faster and have at least the 22bit address space.
