[net.unix] MS/DOS File Server under UNIX

jalsop@aesat.UUCP (John Alsop) (06/28/84)

I would like to get a list of potential sources for MS/DOS file server
software which runs under Unix. The general idea is that an IBM or
equivalent PC would be connected to a Unix system via some sort of
network, and would be able to use the Unix system's disk space as if it
were a locally attached disk.

Please mail me names and phone numbers of any possible sources. I will
copy the results to anyone interested.

In response to a recent query for information on sources for MS/DOS file server
software running under UNIX, I received the following:

1.	The new AT&T unix system offers an MS/DOS file server function.

2.	3COM offers file server software in conjunction with their EtherSeries
	products for the PC.

3.	The Computer Systems Research group of the MIT Lab For Computer Science
is working on 'RVD' for remote virtual disk software for an IBM PC

4.	There is a product developed by Locus Computing Corp. (Santa Monica, CA)
and marketed by AT&T under the name "PC Interface".
