I have had several questions on this matter, so I thought I would clear up a few points immediately. I realize that the pathto program I submitted is not incredibly useful for fast paths because everything goes through harvard. Rest assured that this is only a temporary measure. Pathto sits on top of a program and database collectively known as "pathalias". Even as we speak, the pathalias program is being rewritten and packaged together in an orderly format by several people (including Steve Bellovin, the original author, and Peter Honeyman, who has a new version which is five times as fast and takes one third the disk space for the database). When that package passes inspection, it will be distributed to anyone who wants it. At that point, the paths will be from YOUR host to the destination, rather than from some abstract host such as harvard, since your database will be geared towards your particular site (the reason that pathto now gives you paths from harvard is that the database it is using is tuned to our site). This product should be released in the near future (my best guess is within the next month, but don't hold me to that). Marc Marc A.
