clearly the thing to do with head(1) is to merge it in with cat(1). after all of the hacking berkeley did on cat(1) it still doesn't have enough flags; this might help (maybe could merge tail in too).

Naw, that's an awful idea. If we merged 'head' and 'tail' with 'cat' we'd have to change the name to 'dog' (I mean, only dogs chase their tails). And that would be terrible.
