Has anyone heard of a computer called "Chi 7"? I hear it runs unix, has four CPU's and has ten times the power of a VAX 11/780 for $400,000. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Paul Dietz (dietz@rutgers) (203) 431-5532 -------

Don't know from Chi 7, but have in front of me the 5 November issue of Computerworld which contains on Page 75 a description (under the banner "Convex unveils Unix-based scientific processing system") of the Convex C-1 system, which the article claims is priced at 495k, has a "peak performance of approximately 60" mflop does scalar calculations four times faster than an 11/780 and does some of the Livermore Labs benchmarks at 20 to 25 times faster. The 495k configuration has 4M bytes of 64 bit memory, one i/o processor, 414Mbyte winchester disk, 6250 bpi tape, and a '4.2 enhanced' Unix with Fortran 77 and C. The vendor is listed as Covnex Systems, Suite 151, 1819 Fireman Drive, Richardson, Texax 75091 marty ----------

One of my old grad advisers was looking for C programmers for a fast multiprocessor in development. This may be the `Chi 7.' --eugene miya NASA Ames Res.
