There are two versions of the Microvax I, the KD32-AA (M7135) which has the F+G floating point microcode and the KD32-AB (M7135-YA) which has the F+D floating point microcode. I understand there are also two versions of Ultrix-32 for the Microvax, one for each, presumably emulating the missing floating point instructions, right ? Since Unix only uses F+D, the KD32-AB is preferable since presumably the microcode runs faster than the software emulation, right ? Does MicroVMS (and VMS) use F+G instead ? KD32-AA's are generally what you get unless you specifically ask. What is the situation with the Microvax II ? The "Microvax architecture" only supports F+G (right?) Cheers, Dan Ts'o Dept.
