[net.unix] weirdness while tipping

phil@amdcad.UUCP (Phil Ngai) (12/31/84)

Sometimes when tipping from a 780 to a 750 (both run 4.2bsd)
the characters I type are suddenly seen by the other machine as
all upper case, though I can receive characters from the other machine
without difficulty. This will occur in the middle of a session,
I can usually originate a session without trouble. There seems to
be some correlation with using ^U, ^P, or some other control characters
while in emacs on the other machine. The only solution seems to be
to logout, break the connection, and retip.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Control-P is the ``literal next'' character in, quoting its other
special characters. Control-A toggles all-caps mode. Ugly, I say....
