Due to the ever growing traffic on the Unix-Wizards and Info-Unix lists, I am now planning to change the ARPA distribution strategy to digest format, with the digests being prepared automaticly each night by a magic shell/awk/sed script run at 0445 by CRON. (An alternative might be just to send USENET-originated messages in a Digest, and ARPA-originated messages directly. Comments?) While this will not reduce the worthless blathering from the USENET, it will at least decrease the number of separate SMTP transactions we have to initiate, and will make it easier to defer handling of list traffic until later. If the intellectual level of the lists continues to degrade, I will entertain suggestions for ways to combat the problem. The only thing I am opposed to is having a human in the mail distribution loop. -Mike Muuss UNIX-Wizards and INFO-UNIX Moderator
