******************************************************************************** * Warning: Please do NOT reply by 'r' as mail header address may be incorrect * ******************************************************************************** We are running Unix 4.2 bsd on a Vax11/750 connected to an LA100 (Letter- printer 100 -- Digital Electronic Corporation) and we'd like to get 'troff' to work on it. Therefore, I'd like to pose the following questions: (1) What does 'troff' output? I have been told it is CAT pho- tosetter codes; what are CAT photosetter codes and where can I find more information about them? (2) I have been told that by piping 'troff' through /usr/lib/vcat and /usr/lib/rvcat the output is converted to a raster of bits. What does this mean and what do these programmes do? (3) Finally, assuming that I have all the information needed, how do I go about getting it to work on a particular printer (i.e. the LA100). I have the escape sequence that puts the LA100 in graphics mode and I know how the graphics mode works (in addition to knowing the specifications -- e.g. dots per inch horizontally and vertically). I shall endeavour to post a summary of the responses I receive in about a month's time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ephraim Silverberg BITNET : 0210097@techunix ARPANET : 0210097%techunix.bitnet@wiscvm.arpa UUCP : 0210097%techunix.BITNET@psuvax1.UUCP --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
