Our company's computer center charges corporate projects and departments for use of its machines. We need to ensure that the rates we charge have some relation to what it would cost to get the same service on the outside. The method used for pegging our IBM rates is easy, since there are a large number of IBM service bureaus around. We'd like to do the same for our Unix service, but this type of bureau seems to be a rarer breed of bird. Could anyone who operates or knows about a service bureau for Unix timesharing out there in netland (if there are any...) be kind enough to share their charging algorithm and rates (CPU time, connect time, disk space charges, I/O actuations, etc.) with us? Rates for VAX systems running BSD4.x would be particularly applicable to our situation. Direct responses would be appreciated; a summary will be posted depending upon interest and number of responses. Thanks, Dick Dramstad rad@mitre-bedford.arpa
