[net.unix] Advice Sought on DMF32's versus DZ/DH-11's

karl@mtu.UUCP (Karl Ottenstein) (03/31/85)

We currently have a 750 running 4.2 with 24 ports of DMF32. (8 ports DEC,
16 Emulex). We need 8 more ports, primarily to add 3 additional dial-up
modems. Most of the existing ports are terminals or graphics devices.

We have had numerous modem problems which I ascribe to the DFM32 driver.
(Anyone else have problems or know of fixes?) Thus, I am leaning towards
a DZ-11 look-alike or a DH-11 look-alike. I have the possibility of
trading my 8-port DMF32 for a 16-port DZ-11. Does anyone have any
experience which would indicate that I would be foolish to opt for a
solution which would be 16 ports of DMF32 and 16 or DZ-11 [in terms of
performance, given the capabilities of the DMF32] as opposed to a
solution which would retain my 24 ports of DFM32 and add 8 ports of DZ??
Note: cost is a key criterion here, as we don't want to sink more than
$1,000 or so into the new ports.

Thanks in advance to all respondants. If requested, I'll post a
summary of comments on DMF32 vs DZ/DH performance to the net.
