>John Reeves - >I also think that your selling Alice, Ig and the Dream Syndicate short >if you're gonna lump'em as VU derivatives. Apologies for dismissing Iggy Pop so easily. Alice - well, some arguments could be made in his favor. But the Dream Syndicate? They even stole the name! From the liner notes to "VU" - ... [John] Cale had studied in London under the avant-garde composer Cornelius Cardew, and was working in New York as a member of composer La Monte Young's experimental-music group, the Dream Syndicate. ----- --------- That is, John Cale was in a group of that name before the Velvet Underground was even formed. So much for originality. Still, I enjoyed "The Days of Wine and Roses" because I like V.U. With "The Medicine Show" apparently Dream Syndicate lead vocalist Steve Wynn decided to steal a lot more from Jim Morrison and less from Lou Reed. But I still contend that they are utterly lacking in originality. At least they have good taste in what they steal. I say again -- why settle for copies when you can have the real thing? -- Joe Buck Entropic Processing, Inc. (epi) {allegra,decwrl,hplabs,ucbvax,gatech,ihnp4}!twg!t12tst!epicen!jbuck
