Can someone help me with addresses of either companies or researchgroups in universities, that have developed alternative shells for Unix. I am particularly interested in shells with a strong graphical orientation, making use of bitmapped displays. Hubert van Dongen Oce-Netherlands {seismo,philabs,decvax,ucbvax}!mcvax!oce-rd1!hmd

It does not require bit-mapped displays but does use termcap. Some notable features... upward compatibility with Bourne shell command history and editing macros (essentially System V shell functions) background job support user-definable menus (function key oriented) and command sequences file and directory browser fast(er) built-ins for mv, cp, rm, ls -lis, and others Requests for further information should be directed to: {decvax,akgua}!mcnc!rti-sel!scirtp!unishell -- Ned Robie
