I am in the process of designing a comprehensive adduser program for a network of minis that we support on campus. I will have access to a student database where I will have basically a student's real name and a social security number. On other machines on our campus, login names are generated by hand, with 3-4 letters of the last name combined with the last 4 digits of the social security number, but some of the people in my group frown on this idea. Has anyone written any 'smart' code of this type that might generate partial last names, all being unique, and possibly filtering out obscene combinations, etc?
