[net.unix] AT&T and Sun cooperation

ables@ut-sally.UUCP (King Ables) (09/21/85)

I've been off the net for a while so you'll have to forgive me
if this has been talked about, but I just heard about it. By
the way, any SERIOUS followups on this topic should NOT be sent
to net.jokes or net.movies! Please remove them when you "f."

I just read about AT&T and Sun joining forces to produce a truly
standard version of Unix to satisfy both 4.2 and System V folks.
I can't help but be reminded of a line from "The Empire Strikes
Back" where Darth Vader would be played by AT&T (Deathstar, Inc.,
who else?!) and Luke is played by the brash young student types of
Sun (formerly of Berkeley) and Darth says:

"Join me and we can end this destructive conflict and bring
   order to the galaxy!"

Plus, consider the close ties LucasFilm and Sun have. The parallels
are unbelievable. And if you view AT&T as the father of Unix, you
can get another line from that same scene:

"Join me and together we can rule the galaxy as father and
   (ahem) Sun."

Later:

Luke: "(agonized) Ken, Dennis, why didn't you tell me?"

What I really want to know, though, is who is Yoda talking about:

Ben: If you chose to face System V, you will do so alone, I cannot
interfere... Luke, Don't give into streams. That leads to
   	System V.
   Luke: I won't... and I'll be back... I promise.
Yoda: Told you, I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse.
Ben: That version is our last hope.
   Yoda: No, there is another.

v6, right, Yoda?
