Is the Ultrix tar format identical with the BSD tar format? I ask this in connection with the dual-ported disk question I posted. It appears that my original suggestion of shared filesystems isn't practical, but here's a plan B: suppose the dual-ported disk had a reserved partition without a Unix filesystem on it, and the other partitions were exclusively assigned either to the 11/70(2.8BSD) or to the MicroVax II(Ultrix). We could bundle up files using the 2.8BSD tar and leave the result in the blank partition. Then users on the MicroVax could "un-tar" them into their own directories.
