Any such translator would have to include a large run-time support library (or use F77's) to provide operations on data types that are not built into C, to perform formatted I/O, etc. The translated source would be pretty hard to deal with. Why would you want such a translator instead of a compiler?

I just got a letter from Lifeboat Associates in New York describing a product called 'FORTRIX-C'. It is billed as a translator that converts Fortran code to C code. It does not specify Fortran-77 just says standard Fortran. It is available for IBM-PC and VMS. There phone number is 212-860-0300. Address is 1651 Third Ave., New York, NY 10128. There is this company Rapitech Systems Inc, 565 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10017 (212) 687-6255 often advertising about their FORTRIX(tm), Fortran-to-C translator. But I don't know anything about the quality/problems with it. -- Bjorn Eriksen ENEA DATA Sweden UUCP: {seismo,mcvax,cernvax,diku,ircam,prlb2,tut,ukc,unido}!enea!ber ARPA: enea!ber@seismo.arpa
