Hi there, I do not yet have a network, but I will probably have one within the year. The current intention is to have one small machine (probably a VAX 750) act as a print server (among other things). Any for/against recommendations? The current intention is to run ultrix on most of the DEC machines that are attached. Is there an rlpr (or rprint or some such?) There didn't appear to be a man page on my ultrix system for such a command (but I have learned not to trust ultrix man pages completely)? If not, you might consider MDQS (available from BRL),
which nicely supports network spooling, batch, etc.

Ultrix 1.2 apparently supports the Berkeley `lpr' software: at least, I recall seeing mention of `new' lpr software in the manuals. By the way, I would recommend Ultrix to anyone interested in bringing up a standard networking Unix with little effort. We run nonstandard networking Unix here, though, so I have not actually used the system; but the documentation is there, the code is `4.2+some_4.3+many_fixes+ System-V_support', and it all looks very nice. -- In-Real-Life: Chris Torek, Univ of MD Comp Sci Dept (+1 301 454 4251) UUCP: seismo!umcp-cs!chris CSNet: chris@umcp-cs ARPA: chris@mimsy.umd.edu
