[net.unix] Manufacturing Software under Unix??

************************** Emergency Help! ************************

I need a MRP system that will run under Unix. This is a software
package that integrates all the planning, inventory control, ecn's,
bill of materials, accounting, etc for a manufacturing company. We
have outgrown our current system and are looking for something that
has room to grow.

The reason it is an emergency is that our controller wants us to by a
system that only runs on an HP 3000. We already have a Pyramid and
in general are a unix house. There is no way that I know of to share
resources between the HP 3000 which runs a propriatery operating
system and unix. This would tend to isolate the people connected to
the MRP system from the rest of the company that is on the Pyramid.

We have searched for months and have only found a couple of packages
for unix. Both looked primative with poor user i/f's compared to the
package on the HP 3000 (Computer Solutions). This tends to make me
begin to belive the press that says that unix is only good for
program development and not for business!

Does anyone out there know of a modern, user friendly, flexible,
complete MRP package available under unix? Even if it ran on a VAX
and not a Pyramid.

As a fall back, a MRP package that ran under VMS would be better
than the completley alien HP 3000. At least with VAX VMS I can
support remote login and file transfer if not Networked File
System...

Please, if you have any pointers, send email direct or call me on the
phone. If no strong alternatives come up soon, our controler will
purchase the HP 3000 system.
