[net.unix] UUCP over a TAC?

bierma@NPRDC.ARPA (Larry Bierma) (11/06/85)

Greetings,

Is it possible to run uucp through a MILNET TAC? We are about to place
a PC-AT running XENIX in Washington DC and wan't it to be able to
routinely transfer mail and files to and from our VAX (4.2BSD) here in
San Diego. We are a MILNET host. I hate the thought of long distance
phone calls 3-4 times a day. If anyone has done it would you please
send me the appropriate incantation from your L.sys file (with the
names/numbers changed to protect the innocent of course).

I hate to be disagreeable, but I've used MODEM7 over a TAC with fine results.
There's a program called MMODEM or something like that at MIT-MC which does
all the work - modifies your connection to binary, transfers the file, and
puts it back to ordinary mode. Only problem I had was that with the network
delays my micro kept timing out; when I told it (a 4mhz Z80) that it was
running at 25mhz it was willing to wait much longer and everything was fine.
