[net.unix] Help needed on 2.8BSD uucp set-up

jwp@uwmacc.UUCP (Jeffrey W Percival) (12/03/85)

We are running 2.8BSD on our 11/70, and can't get uucp to work.
I'm sure the problem is primarily in our faulty understanding
of the details. Specifically, I'm confused by references to
"ACUs" in the documentation. We don't have such things, and
I am unsure how to make entries in the L.* files to denote this.
We are using Hayes Smartmodems. Also, in uucp.h I see defined
"DIALOUT" and "ACULAST". How do the Hayes control codes (3 plus
signs, AT D, etc.) fit into these definitions?

I have things working to the point where uucp queues things up
in the spool directory; I just can't decipher the details on
how to tell it about the dial-out port, modem control, etc.
I would very much appreciate an explanation of this, however
brief, and some examples of the L-devices, L-dialcodes, and L.sys
files would be great!

p.s. Does the 4.xBSD (VAX) uucp use the same L* file formats
as the 2.xBSD (PDP 11/70) uucp?
